School Band & Choir

Music is an extremely important area of the Primary School Curriculum in Corpus Christi. We have a very talented school band which comprises of tin-whistle, guitar, accordion, concertina, piano, violin and flute musicians. The band plays for audiences at the school Communion, Confirmation, Christmas Concert and other significant events throughout the year.

We believe there are many emotional and mental health benefits for children who participate in music at Corpus Christi Primary School. The study of music enhances teamwork skills and discipline. In order for the band to sound good, all players must work together harmoniously towards a single goal - the performance. The players must commit to learning music, attending rehearsals and practicing. Music provides children with a means of self-expression. The children can express feelings through their musical performance. Self-esteem is a by-product of this self-expression. Music performance teaches young people to conquer fear and take risks. A little anxiety is a good thing and dealing with it early makes it less of a problem later. Risk-taking is essential if a child is to develop his/her potential.

In Corpus Christi we also encourage our children to take part in the school choir. Throughout the year the choir performs at important events for both small and large audiences. The children who participate in the school choir benefit greatly. Learning to work together in a group or choir can give children a sense of collectiveness and can help children make friends and develop more positive attitudes towards each other in general. Children can bond with each other and use singing as a means of self-expression.
